Worship Matters: Leading Others to Encounter the Greatness of God

Item # B3230-00-11

Bob Kauflin
Foreword by Paul Baloche

Worship Matters is the first book from pastor, songwriter, and worship leader Bob Kauflin. In these 300 pages, Bob seeks to focus readers on the essentials of God-honoring worship, combining biblical foundations with practical application for the real world. Thirty-two chapters cover a variety of topics, each rooted not in cultural trends, but in unchanging scriptural principles.

Bob covers a variety of topics, including the devastating effects of worshiping the wrong things, how to base our worship on God’s self-revelation rather than on our assumptions, the fuel of worship, the centrality of the cross, the community of worship, and the ways that eternity’s worship should affect our worship here and now. In every chapter he seeks to lead worshipers, not to cultural trends, but to unchanging scriptural principles.

Worship Matters is for pastors, for worship leaders, and for anyone who wants to learn more about what it means to worship God.

Reviews

“In every conversation or correspondence I’ve had with Bob Kauflin, one thing always shines through—a burning desire to ‘get it right’ when it comes to the worship of God. Bob loves God, values theology and cares about people. This mix is found throughout this wonderful and helpful book. Worship Matters will inspire you as a worshiper, and spur you on as a leader of worship.” —Matt Redman, lead worshiper and songwriter, Brighton, UK

“Here is a rare book: a practical treatment of corporate worship that nevertheless reflects deep theological commitments. One may disagree here and there with some of the judgments, but it is demonstrably unfair to imagine that Bob Kauflin has not thought about these matters deeply—and he has done so in a context where he is teaching a new generation to take corporate worship seriously in a fashion that is simultaneously biblically faithful and addressing today’s culture.” —D.A. Carson, Research Professor of New Testament, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School

“Bob Kauflin’s new book, Worship Matters, is an outstanding book both for those who lead worship and also for every Christian who wants to worship God more fully. The book is biblical, practical, interesting, wise, and thorough in its treatment of the topic. Though it treats many practical details, it rightly puts primary emphasis on the worship leader’s character and relationship to God, and on the Bible’s own teaching about worship. The next time I teach on worship, I plan to make this the required text.” —Wayne Grudem, Research Professor of Bible and Theology, Phoenix Seminary

“Kauflin…has written what is a must-read for worship leaders, pastors, and lay ministry leaders with a deep desire to know God and to lead others to the throne of God through corporate worship. Starting with an intensely personal account of his own spiritual journey, Bob pulls from his own extensive experience and Scripture to assemble what may be the most understandable and applicable treatment on the subject of worship from the worship leader’s perspective we've seen.” —Worship.com (read more)
