The Cross: A Meditation on Jesus' Atoning Death MP3 DOWNLOAD
Item # A2240-04-51
C.J. Mahaney
Who killed Jesus? asks C.J.
The Father. The Father killed the Son. Feel God’s love for you revealed in Isaiah 53:10. He crushed his son. For you. He crushed him. He bruised him. He punished him. He disfigured him. He crushed him, with all of the righteous wrath that we deserved. That’s what the Father did.
So great was his love for sinners like you and me.
In this message from Isaiah 53, C.J. Mahaney explores three aspects of the Savior’s atoning work:- The appearance: There was, Isaiah says, nothing attractive about Christ. And in fact there is no saving faith apart from divine revelation.
- The reality: Christ suffered because of our sins, as our substitute. Why does Isaiah write as if we, the readers, were present? Because we were morally present, and we’re morally responsible. In the words of John Calvin, when we are appalled by his marred appearance, we must recognize that it is upon ourselves we gaze. For he stood in our place.
- The significance: The cross reveals God’s love for you and me. There is no more significant event in history.
This was the fourth main-session message given at Na 06.
