Although his early years were characterized by exegetically poor messages, he began long ago simply to seek to understand and disclose the mind of Christ as revealed in the text. The fruitfulness God has brought to his ministry shocks him, and if there is a secret to that success, it lies in explaining the Bible to himself, which allows others to grasp it as well.
Expository preaching establishes the authority of God over the mind and soul, exalts the headship of Christ over his church, and prepares the way for the Spirit to save and sanctify. If a pastor wants a church characterized by these three elements, he can do nothing better than to open the Bible to his people and tell them what it means.
