Whenever Christians come together for any reason, God is present among us. Yet he is unusually present when we gather on the Lord's Day.
Two sacraments in particular offer us a regular opportunity to anticipate, celebrate, and enjoy God's presence. In the preached Word, God is faithful to speak divine truth to his people through the unlikely agency of a pastor. In Communion, through the symbols of the bread and cup God speaks to us of the reality of our reconciliation with God and with one another.
Recognizing and responding appropriately to God's presence and voice is the essence of Christian worship. When we are attentive to God as he speaks through these sacraments, we honor him and position ourselves to enjoy and celebrate his presence with one another.
